Although the year is well under-way, it seems appropriate to introduce new staff/new positions here at North Central:

Mrs Jennifer Eichmeier begins a new chapter in her educational journey as our Superintendent/Elementary Principal. A graduate of North Central, she returned home to teach third grade in 2017 and was hired into her new position this summer. Mrs. Eichmeier lives in Powers with her husband Brad and sons Carter and Owen. Her eldest son Brady attends St. Norbert College. Mrs. Eichmeier says “I am overjoyed to be serving my hometown in this position and look forward to fueling our JETS for the FUTURE! “

Mr. Dave Florenski joins North Central as our Middle School/High School Principal.  Mr. Florenski comes to NCA from East Jordan where he served as the MS/HS principal. Prior to his time at East Jordan, he spent 20 years in Gladstone as both a teacher and guidance counselor.  Mr. Flo and family moved back to the UP to be closer to family and to enjoy the great outdoors.  He lives in Powers with his wife Kelly, sons Connor and Mason, and loves being a Jet!

Third grade teacher Mrs. Jean Nuttall returns to North Central after many years teaching in Stephenson.  Mrs. Nuttall has a Bachelor of Science Degree in Elementary Education and many years of experience in Readers and Writers Workshop.  Her ultimate goal is for her students to be lifelong learners. She is excited to return to her home district.

Mrs. Annette Meiner comes to North Central with 27 years experience in elementary education. She is the new Kindergarten teacher at NCA. Mrs. Meiner has taught every grade K-8. In her spare time she enjoys spending time at camp with her husband Scott and their dog Remi. She also enjoys spending time with family and reading.

Mrs. Rachel Walters has been in education for nine years.  Mrs. Walters was previously an aide  at North Central, as well as a teacher with the Head Start program for 3 years.  She will be continuing her education for a Bachelor’s in Elementary Education.  She is the new Early Kindergarten teacher at NCA.  Mrs. Walters lives in Powers with her husband and their five children.  In their spare time they enjoy sports, camping, movie nights as a family, and just spending time with family.  Mrs. Walters is a huge supporter of North Central Area Schools and is very excited to be a part of such a wonderful team!






Photo of Joe HellbergMr. Joe Hellberg has been an educator for 23 years.  Mr. Hellberg has a music education degree and has loved connecting MUSIC to the CORE subjects. With this new teaching opportunity, Mr. Hellberg is able to enjoy focusing on the CORE subjects (and maybe tie in some music education here and there!)  Mr. Hellberg lives in Gladstone with his wife and youngest stepson and has another stepson who is attending Finlandia University. He is a trumpet player who performs with Escanaba City Band, Marquette City Band, and has performed with the Marquette Symphony Orchestra and many other ensembles all over the state.   Mr. Hellberg is excited to work with the amazing 4th and 5th grade students here at North Central Elementary!

Mrs. Sarah Olson brings 12 years of experience to our NCA Readiness Classroom.  She has a degree in ECE with many years of experience in SEL at the Pre-K level. She believes that having a classroom environment that is both fun and educational is the framework needed for our youngest learners success.   Sarah is excited to work with the students at North Central Elementary!  Sarah lives in Bark River with her husband and 3 children.  She enjoys attending her children’s sporting events; basketball, swimming, track and football.  In her spare time Sarah enjoys reading, vacationing with her family and working in her many perennial flower gardens.



Dana Harder is our elementary custodian.  Dana lives in Hermansville with her husband Ryan.  After 20 plus years in the restaurant industry, Dana joined our staff in August.


At our October 11 professional development, teachers worked on communication, team work and problem solving.  This was done using BreakoutEDU, an escape room learning tool designed for education.

Teachers also worked on items for seminar, which is time set aside to focus on social-emotional learning.


Congratulations to the new NHS members who were inducted into the National Honor Society at a banquet on Sunday Oct 13.
