Project Update

THANK YOU, NORTH CENTRAL AREA SCHOOLS COMMUNITY!

On November 4, 2025, voters in the North Central Area School District voted to support a $10.3 million bond proposal, paving the way for a transformative school facility consolidation and improvement plan. Combined with a $15.4 million Section 12d Internal Consolidation Grant awarded by the State of Michigan, the district will now move forward with creating a unified, modern campus in Powers.

This approved bond will fund:

  • Consolidation of operations from two aging buildings into one efficient, modern campus
  • Construction of state-of-the-art classrooms
  • Upgrades to security systems
  • Integration of advanced instructional technology
  • Improvements to playgrounds and learning environments

Rending of new school

We are very grateful to our community for their support of this bond; this investment allows North Central to redirect resources from maintaining outdated facilities toward enhancing student learning and support. The consolidation plan was shaped by facilities assessments conducted in 2021 and 2024, which identified over $26 million in infrastructure needs.

Design Process is Underway!

As soon as the community gave us approval to move forward, the architectural design process began. This process, being led by Integrated Designs, Inc. (IDI), and supported by Miron Construction (construction manager) will continue through Fall 2026.  Phased construction is scheduled to begin in Summer 2027, and continue through August 2028.

Next Steps – Construction Bidding

All components of the project are competitively bid to ensure transparency and the best value for the district. Our partners work closely with the district to identify and engage local subcontractors and suppliers whenever possible, maximizing opportunities for community involvement and supporting the local economy throughout the construction process. Look for bidding to start in Fall 2026. More information will be made available as the date approaches.
